We had such a special afternoon on the river messing around in our recreational kayaks. I’ve heard “friends don’t let friends buy kayaks at box stores” but I’d have to disagree after spending time in the sun $300 Lifetime Tamarack Angler. We had a blast! At 10 ft long and 51lbs, the Tamarack was an easy fit for my 6’ 165 lb frame plus gear. The seat back is easily adjusted for forward lean. The stability was very strong and the boat responded nicely to an edged turn and eddy maneuver. I love that all of the hardware can easily be exchanged with threaded screws that’s go into interior sold cavities (no holes or rivets). That comes in handy later in the life of the kayak. This paddle on the Cowlitz River is just 1 hour north of Portland OR. It was gorgeous and proved that the magic is on the water no matter what craft you are in! Be safe and check conditions and make sure you accurately assess your own skills. Carry dry clothing and other safety gear and make sure to have a plan on case things go wrong.
