#poormanssteak #potatosalad #datepudding #amishcooking Today I have 3 of our favorite Amish\Mennonite style recipes! Potato Salad, Poor Man's Steak, & Date Pudding! I will call it a Cook and Bake with me! Here are the three of our favorite family recipes: Potato Salad : 12 eggs, hardboiled and chopped 12 cups Shredded Hasbrowns, cooked for 8-10 min in microwave 1 1/2 cups finely chopped celery 1/2 cup chopped onion ---------------------------------- Dressing: 3 cups Miracle Whip 6 Tblsp Mustard 1/4 c. Vinegar 2 tsp. salt 2 1/2 cups white sugar _________________________ Once you have everything ready, mix everything together except the Potatoes. make sure the potatoes aren't hot anymore. Mix the dressing etc into the potatoes. Mix well. It's almost better if it sits for a bit before serving. Keep cooled! and Enjoy! __________________________________________ Poor Man's Steak 3lb Hamburger 1 cup Saltines crushed 1 cup milk 1/3 cup chopped onion 2 tsp Greek seasoning 3\4 Tblsp Salt 1 1/2 tsp Pepper Mix together , press into a 9x13 pan and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Then cut into serving sizes and grill slightly. Sauce Recipe: 2 cans Mushroom soup 1 Cup Milk 1 Tblsp Worchestershire Sauce 3\4 tsp greek seasoning 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp Pepper Mix together and pour over the grilled Steak. Bake at 350 F for about 45 min or less if warm. And close to an hour or so if coming out of the Fridge cold. Enjoy!! We love to eat with Mashed Potatoes. ________________________________________ Date Pudding: Cake: 1 cup dates chopped 1 cup hot water 1 Tblsp Butter 1 tsp. Soda Stir and let soak fro 20 minutes. Then add: 1 cup sugar. 1 Egg. 1 cup flour Bake in 9x13 pan at 350F for maybe 20 minutes? Make sure you check it before. Glaze Recipe In a saucepan put 2 Cups cold water, 1/4 heaping cup flour , 2 cups Brown sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp Cinnamon. Stir and bring to a boil. then let sit for a bit and add 1/4 cup butter. and a little vanilla for flavor. Then layer the cake, the glaze, Whipped Topping and bananas in a bowl, trifle style.
