The Links Market is the largest travelling fair in Europe and has been visiting the Scottish town of Kirkcaldy each April for over 700 years. The market stretches along the waterfront by the Firth of Forth on Scotland’s east coast. Established in 1304, the annual six-day event attracts around 250,000 visitors to the town and the modern day funfair includes fast moving theme park style rides, waltzers, a giant wheel, ghost trains, dodgems, limbo dancers, traditional carousel, tests of skill, slot machines, helter skelter, mirror walls and children’s rides as well as the traditional candy floss, hot dogs and other food stalls. There are over 70 rides and 50 food outlets along the length of the market. The fair marks the start of the season for all the participating showmen families who fan out across the UK after the show. To accompany the market, a model funfair show is exhibited in Linktown Church Hall, located near the start of the attractions on the middle Saturday. For some of the models, this is the only day of the year when you can see them! As well as showing you the various models and the associated photographic exhibition, we’ve added some of the pictures we’ve taken of the market over the years. These pictures all have a yellow star with the year to identify them and are shown alongside selected models with the remainder included as a gallery at the end of the video. When we visited, early morning on 22 April 2023, it was a bit windy as you can sometimes hear!
