Waxing Mugs on The Potter's Wheel

Waxing pots. A step I always try and get finished as quickly as possible. Tap centring helps, seriously, I cannot imagine waxing without it anymore, and I rush, I shouldn’t, but I can’t help myself. These days my rule is simple, whenever I unpack a bisque fired load of pots, I have to wax them immediately. I cannot let them build up otherwise I know I’ll just put them of… I think it has to do with the fact that there’s really creative input during this step, it’s a slog, it’s repetitive, and you must be careful, as accidentally dripping wax on a portion of the vessel that needs remain bare is extraordinarily easy, as is letting the pot slip off centre and into the tray. Perhaps most importantly though, I need to teach myself not to drink too much coffee before beginning a waxing marathon as my hands always jitter. #waxing #mugs #process #ceramics #WIP #maker
