It was a brilliant show developed by writers Seaman Jacobs, Ed James, and Jim Barnett. But the real reason the show became a success was because of the stars on-screen. The F-Troop cast was a great ensemble of some of America’s finest actors. Sadly, many of the F-Troop cast members have passed away. Forrest Tucker, who played Sgt. O’Rourke, passed away in 1986 at the age of 67. He had a reputation for playing villains and he truly did justice to the scheming Sgt. O’Rourke! In contrast, there was the bumbling Captain Parmenter played by Ken Berry. He passed away at the age of 85 in 2018. He was a prolific actor also known for his word in Mayberry R.F.D. One of the best characters from the F-Troop cast was the sassy Wrangler Jane played by Melody Patterson. She died of natural causes in 2015. She begun her career with F-Troop and soon became one of the most beloved characters on the show. James Hampton played the foolhardy Hannibal Dobbs on the show. He also had a great career in films, appearing in The Longest Yard and Teen Wolf. He died at age 84 in 2022. Frank de Kovawas a Shakespearean actor who had a formidable career on the stage. He played the Native American character Chief Wild Eagle – which became his most famous role. He passed away in 1981 at the age of 71.
