Although Scotland's railways became some of the first lines to oust steam locomotives from their trains, the changeover process was slow. Lots of new diesel designs in the late 1950s and early 1960s were tried out in Scotland so the variety of different types was extensive. Some were more successful than others. Some went on for decades but others, like the North British locos and the diesel railbuses, had only short working lives. Please note that this film has been transferred directly from silent 8mm cine film and therefore has no sound.
