Now this is cool. I saw this OS 49 Wankel engine new in the box for sale at random on my Alberta RC aircraft forum while I was having my morning coffee the other day, so I called the guy and got it on the spot. There were very few of these made. They make a lot of power, sound very pleasant at idle and fairly quiet at full throttle, and consume enormous amounts of fuel. The most pleasing part is there’s next to absolutely zero vibration since it’s not really a reciprocating engine. It’s almost like a single cylinder radial engine in a sense. Is it a two stroke or a four stroke? It’s neither. The guy was asking a more than reasonable price for it and my initial reasoning was to buy it and then sell it to make a profit, but after seeing just how smoothly it runs and just how cool it is, I think I’m going to keep it and find a smaller plane for it.
