Inukshuk, my beloved polar bear

Inukshuk 2009 - 2024 My favourite polar bear, the first bear I saw on camera at the Polar Bear Habitat, and the one that led me into my obsession with all polar bears. He was born in the wild and rescued after being orphaned at 3 months old. He lived a full life, spending his best years with his son, Ganuk, and his bff Henry, at the Habitat. He loved doing polar bear yoga, sparring with Henry, sleeping in the lake, sitting while eating in the pools, stomping barrels and so much more. Inukshuk starred in Animal Planet's "Growing up polar bear", was the main model for the polar bear in Disney's "Timmy Impossible", and a muse for painters and photographers. He has had amazing staff over the years and was cared for and treated with full respect. He may have been captive and unable to return to the wild, but he lived a near-wild life at the Habitat, choosing where to spend his days, smashing up ice on the lake every spring, and roaming at will. 💙 I was able to visit him in person, be up close to him and tell him he was my favourite. The time I spent near him means so much to me, and I thank the amazing staff there for giving me time and so much more with him.
