Another day, another rotator recovery for a heavy container rollover. Despite the slow downs at the port recently, there seems to be no shortage of container rollovers and accidents! I received this call from Jonas at Kustom Tow to assist him with his customer's rollover in Long Beach, CA, on the 710 freeway. I was first on scene, and just knew this 20' container would be heavy. In my experience, these ones are always heavier than the 40' containers. My first step was to pull it towards me to allow other trucks to pass through behind it. While doing this, I noticed the bottom lock was not locked, so I tackled that next. After putting Hulk, my 2020 Peterbilt 50ton rotator, into position, I let Joe and Hector operate and rig their own trucks. They have done PLENTY of these jobs with me and I'm still training them so they won't need assistance. As seen in the video, Hector did not put a catch line on the tractor, which made it come over faster than the container. If you've ever seen my other videos, you know that is a major no-no from me as all my jobs are smooth and precise from back to front. Joe also had a hiccup when he kept stopping during the lift to hear what random stuff Jonas was talking about. Nonetheless, the job was done great, just not to my crazy perfect standards.
