2022/2023 Sherco 300SE and 250SE Factory long term review︱Cross Training Enduro

http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Our long-term review of our Sherco 250SE and 300SE factory models after seven months and plenty of riding! I had many requests for a comprehensive review on our 2022 Sherco 250SE and 300SE Factory models. After seven months and plenty of riding, here is our long-term review. We will start with things we love, then finish with things we hate. This will all apply as a 2023 Sherco 300SE review too. The Sherco 300SE engine. We love it! We suspect the electronic power valve is part of the reason. And of course Sherco is thankfully using carburetors as per the 2023 Sherco 250SE review. There is so much grunt at low revs for our hard enduro riding. In fact sometimes the 300SE breaks traction at low revs when I don't want it to. We had plenty of chances to ride other brands back-to-back for a 2023 Sherco 250SE Factory review. We think only the Beta RR300 comes close to the same power delivery at low revs. It would be interesting to see some dyno charts comparing all the various models in a 2023 Sherco 300SE Factory review. KYB suspension. Generally this gets rave reviews.Sherco 300SE known issues to follow. It certainly soaks up the punishment if you ride aggressively! Some riders into hard enduro have said the forks were a bit harsh and had them revalved. The 250SE is often better in slippery terrain. Sherco introduced a counter-balancer on the Sherco 250SE Factory and 300SE in 2021. The engine feels very smooth - not quite as smooth as the Beta and TPI models but close. Sherco 250SE known issues to follow. Oddly enough, I think they are too harsh for our slow riding. But Jeff loves the forks on his 250SE. Of course, these are the 'higher spec' Factory models set up for racing. Unfortunately the base model with softer suspension wasn't available last year and it would probably have suited our style of riding better.Overall handling of the Sherco 300SE Factory? Great at low or high speed. This has been a real bonus for me after the Beta Xtrainer. Jeff said the 250SE is the most comfortable and best motorbike he's ever owned. But of course generally all the two strokes are very good nowadays. If you like bling, you will like the Sherco 250SE Factory model. For 2023, Sherco is only offering this Factory model so it will be interesting to see if they make any changes to the KYB suspension. Galfer discs, FMF muffler, Selle Dalla Valle gripper seat, Neken triple-clamps, composite rear sprocket, Excel rims, AXP skidplate. We aren't into bling. But the gripper seat has been great! There is no sliding around on steep climbs and descents. What about the Sherco 300SE known issues and problems? Tall riders usually feel cramped and opt for bar risers. We did. Shorter riders will love the handlebar setup. Clutches are getting very light on most brands. But Sherco hasn't acted on this yet. Thankfully it's cheap to fix. Some riders who don't ride aggressively simply remove two clutch springs. Otherwise you can spend $30 and replace three of the springs with these KTM ones. Adler clutch plates on the Sherco 300SE Factory. They work for the vast majority of riders. Tim Coleman abuses his clutch constantly with zero problems. The good news is Sherco has resolved a lot of issues in recent years. If you are thinking of buying an older model, see our known issues video. So what about the Sherco 2022 and 2023 models? This is just personal preference, but Sherco use the same low handlebars on their trials models and the enduro models. However, a small percentage of riders have issues at low hours. It happened on Jeff's 250 at 20 hours. Funny noises. We checked the clutch plates and had to replace them. Some Sherco owners suspect Adler occasionally has quality control issues and they fit Honda clutch plates instead. Fouling spark plugs on the Sherco 250SE Factory. This was a common problem on older Shercos. But it still occurs occasionally because they are jetted too rich from the factory. Sometimes the dealer doesn't make the necessary adjustments, and they fail to advise the customer that changes will be needed. We have no issues with our cooling fans, but it seems a small percentage of cooling fans fail at low hours and are replaced under warranty. Sometimes the Sherco 300SE Factory fuel tank and radiator shroud plastics still don't line up well. There's a gap on my 300SE, but the 250SE is perfect. It all works fine, but just strange they still get this wrong occasionally. The fuel tap location. It's terrible! We usually get of the motorbikes to try and reach it. That engine more than makes up for niggling little issues. Sometimes they do rejet the carb but it can still be a bit rich. This happened to my Sherco 300SE. To complicate the issue, many think Sherco's recent jetting recommendations are too rich in the 2018 manuals and on. Refer to the 2017 manual for more accurate jetting settings.
