After the Pistons spent the better part of the late 80's smashing their way to the top of the NBA hierarchy, the league opted to re-emphasize their previously dormant flagrant foul rule for the 1990-91 season. That meant, for the first time since the start of Detroit's Bad Boys run, players could be punished for non-fighting fouls if there was a perceived intent to injure.
