“Sujecheon,” is one of the most well-known and representative works of the court music repertoire. In the Joseon court, “Sujecheon” was performed on several different occasions, including formal state ceremonies, royal banquets, royal processions, and to accompany masked dance. The piece is performed with a full orchestra. “Sujecheon,” which expresses the wish for eternal life like that in Heaven, was originally entitled Jeongeup, a song from Bakjae, one of the Three Kingdoms of the Korean Peninsula. The piece was performed at court as court dance accompaniment as well as instrumental repertoire for ceremonies throughout history. ----------- Introduction by Lee Sang-won, Concertmaster of the National Gugak Center Court Music Orchestra Performance by the National Gugak Center Court Music Orchestra Bak (wooden clapper) performed by Lee Young, Artistic Director Concertmaster: Kim Byeong-o Piri (double-reed oboe) performed by Ko U-seok, Hong Hyeon-wu, Yun Hyeong-wuk, Kim Cheol, Kim Seong-jun, Lee Jong-mu, Min Ji-hong, Lee Min-ha, and An Ji-yong Daegeum (long transverse flute) performed by Lee Sang-won, Roh Bung- rae, Kim Sang-jun, Kim Yeong-heon, Mun Eung-gwan, Park Jang-won, Kim Hwui-gon, Lee Gyeol, Lee Jong-beom, and Lee O-hun Haegeum (two-string fiddle) performed by Kim Ju-nam, Yun Mun-suk, Ryu Eun-jeong, Jeon Eun-hye, Ko Su-yeong, Sa Hyeon-uk, Gong Gyeong-jin, Kim Yong-seon, Han Gap-su, Lee Chan-mi, and Lee Se-mi Ajaeng (bowed zither) performed by Kim Chang-gon, Jeong Gye-jong, and Kim In-ae Sogeum (short transverse bamboo flute) performed by Lee Seung-yeop Janggu (hourglass-shaped drum) performed by Park Geo-hyeon Jwago (seated drum) performed by An Seong-il Venue: Yeakdang Theater, National Gugak Center, Seoul
