The head should have all three colors: red, black, and white, preferably in equal amounts. Best would be to have a good kohaku head with a lightening stripe or a Y -shape in black on the top of the head choosing sanke koi fish Be careful choosing a young sanke with many black stripes in the pectoral fins. These sometimes develop too much black at a later stage. Again, as in all koi, look for broad shoulders and large pectoral fins for good growth potential. Thick tail tube is also a good sign.
