For the first time ever, the full broadcast of Billie Holiday's interview on The Comeback Story! 1953 was a busy year for Billie although she was not in the recording studio. She was performing in night clubs across the US and did numerous interviews talking about her hardship with getting her cabaret license in New York. One of those interviews is presented here, ABC's "The Comeback Story" (the answer to NBC's "This Is Your Life") with host George Jessel. The show goes over Billie's life up until her arrest in 1947 and her triumphant return at her record breaking Carnegie Hall concert on Easter Sunday in 1948. There are special guest stars who go to bat for Billie, lauding her for her voice, loyalty and kindness. Those include Louis Armstrong, former lover Tallulah Bankhead, singer Mae Barnes, Artie Shaw and others.
