Identification of Groundwater Potential Zone using GIS/Remote Sensing Techniques and AHP (Part-1)

Delineation of Groundwater Potential Zone and Mapping using GIS/Remote Sensing Techniques and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) Hello everyone, Welcome again in GIS & RS Solution YouTube channel. Hope you are doing fine. Today’s video is very crucial who wants to perform study using Multiple Criteria Decision-Making methods. In this video I have shown how to perform Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) techniques for delineation of Ground water potential zoning and using GIS & Remote sensing techniques. I have used An AHP automatic excel sheet where you just have to put the criteria and it will automatically generate weighted score and then just input these in the ArcMap. You don’t have to calculate manually weighted score for each criterion. This technique you can use for any risk assessment study like flood risk, landslide, earthquake risk or any kind of risk assessment study. I have divided this video into two parts as this will be long. In the first part I will show you how to set criteria and prepare these variables and reclassify them. In the second part I’ll show you how to perform final AHP process for identification of Ground water potential zoning. However, though this video will be long but it will help you a lot I must say. Please remember that the Projection system and cell size for all of your maps need to be same. Otherwise, you cannot perform the process. It will not give the accurate results. You just need to check for every map that the projection system and cell size are same. I will recommend you to set the projection system for DEM, Landsat image, study area shapefile or any file that you will use. It will save your time. The evolution and flow of groundwater are mainly controlled by material features of the lithology, near-surface and sub-surface soil features, structure, and drainage patterns, whereas replenishment is influenced by rainfall, land use type, and infiltration rates. 1. Drainage Density--which controls the runoff distribution and infiltration rates 2. Rainfall---The major source of water 3. LULC---which affects the recharge processes 4. Slope ---which drives the water flow energy 5. Soil ---which govern the infiltration rates 6. Geology---which controls infiltration, movement, and storage of water 7. Lineament density---which increase hydraulic conductivity Anyway, In the next part I will show you how you will use AHP file and weighted overlay and these variables map to perform Identification of potential groundwater zone. Till then stay safe. Thank you for being with us.
