Lowe's Shop Class shows you how to build a rolling entertaining cart that provides extra storage and makes a great serving spot to help make entertaining at your outdoor party easy. Find project details here: http://low.es/1Nj5MSC In the first part of this four part series, you will find instructions on building the sides of the entertaining cart. Start by building the left and right sides for the base of the cart. The two sides are mirror images of each other. Each one has a front leg, back leg, two rails and handle extensions. Start by cutting all of the rails and legs to the correct size. You will not need a table saw for this project; a miter saw will suffice. Now you have the main pieces to form the sides. There should be two rails and two legs; one of the legs is shorter than the other because it will have a castor attached. To join the rails to the legs, use pocket holes. Use a pocket hole jig to drill holes near each end. It's time to drill a hole in the bottom of the back leg for the castor. The back leg is the shorter of the two. To do this, use a 1/2 inch bit and drill in 1 1/2 inches. To make drilling easier, use a bullet point bit. Create a starting point for your bit by using a nail. Use the table as a guide to help drill parallel to the face of the leg. Add a tape flag to your drill to easily drill to the correct depth. Drill the axel holes in the front legs using the same bit. There are two handle extensions on each side. Cut two blanks, each of which will become two handles. Drill a 1 inch hole, 3/8 inch deep into each end to accommodate the aluminum handles to be added later. Take the pocket hole jig and drill pocket holes in each end. Measure out your angle, mark it, and cut the angle using the jig saw. Separate the two pieces. To assemble the first side, make sure your pocket holes are on the inside. The two sides should be mirror images of each other. Apply some glue to the areas that meet and attach everything with pocket hole screws.
