He obtained his PhD from the Univ of Cambridge and previously studied at the Univ of Damascus (Syria) and Amherst College (USA) He writes a column in Urdu for the Indian national daily Inqilab in India and has been writing columns and editorials for various English newspapers and magazines for a number of years. He is the author of Poetry of Belonging: Muslim Imaginings of India, 1850-1950. Sohail Hashmi is a true ‘Dilliwalah.’ An academic, historian, academician, and filmmaker, Hashmi is well-known for immersive heritage walks that he conducts around the capital. He is a historian, activist, academician, and film-maker, and also he is a leading authority on Delhi’s history and is specifically known for his Delhi Heritage Walks for children and adults.
