THE WOLF HUNTERZ Reactions THE WOLF HUNTERZ Reaction To Mahler - Symphony No.8 / Orchestra of the Music Makers Final Chorus from “The Symphony of a Thousand” by Gustav Mahler    • Mahler - Symphony No.8 / Orchestra of...   Hi Travis and Suzi! I was incredibly inspired by your fan Menno’s submission of Thomas Tallis’ “Spem in alium.” That performance simply blew me away, and I’ve spent the past two weeks trying to find another work like it that was worthy to follow it. However, I couldn’t find one, so I’m going for a two-part series instead: The first will capture the massive scale, and the second will capture its style and beautiful atmosphere. So, this first submission, written by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (goose’-tav mah’-lur) is his so called “Symphony of a Thousand.” It is the most joyous and celebratory music he ever wrote as well as the last of his Own music he had the privilege to hear during his lifetime. A series of personal tragedies, including the news of his terminal illness, led him to write the absolutely darkest music I know of immediately after it. I’ll share that music with you another time and will do my best to prepare you for it as it is really tough to listen to. The present music, however, is utterly glorious. Unfortunately, it suffers from mostly poor performances. That’s because it is difficult to manage the huge forces, and most professional conductors have an ego problem that makes them unable to resist tinkering with the score or doing something crazy to it where they force the music to do things it doesn’t want to do. Fortunately, this amazing performance by a youth orchestra in Singapore exists, and these guys perform the last chorus better than any professional group that I have heard to date. Travis, this one will be right up your alley as after the chorus sings their final words, the trombone section plays their counter melodies full out begonias-to-the-wall. No joking, it sounds like their lips are going to come out through the bell of the horn. It’s freaking awesome! Enjoy, and part two is coming. Again, hats off to Menno for introducing that amazing Tallis performance to all of us. The fact that I needed two works to respond says everything you need to know about how incredible his selection was! (Please start the video at 1:17:45 and end about twenty seconds into the applause as it goes on for awhile. Also, please turn off the closed captioning as the words are not important, and the translation is absurdly inaccurate.) omm, orchestra of the music makers, singapore, symphony orchestra, orchestra, mahler, symphony of a thousand, symphony no. 8,mahler 8,mahler symphony of a thousand, mahler symphony no. 8,esplanade,esplanade concert hall, esplanade theatres on the bay, singapore music, sgcultureanywhere,yt:cc=on
