Nagar Mandap Sri Kirti Vihar is a Theravada Buddhist monastery in Kirtipur. It was built using the traditional Thai architectural style. The monastery is relatively new and was built in 1975. The head monk at the monastery also works for the Tribhuvan University in Kirtipur. The monastery features models of the four sacred places in Buddhism. One holy place in Buddhism is Lumbini which is the place where the Buddha was born. Another is Bodhgaya which is the location where the Buddha became enlightened. A third place is Sarnath which was where the Buddha preached for the very first time and the final holy place in Buddhism is Kushinaga which is where the Buddha passed into the state of parinirvana. In addition to the replicas of these holy places, the shrine and pagoda in the monastery are decorated with different Nepali art. The shrine and pagoda were later additions to the monastery and were able to be built using money that had been received as charity from Thai Buddhists. In 1995 the monastery was officially inaugurated by the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. The monastery is not located on top of the hill, as many of the sights in Kirtipur are but rather is along the left fork of the road at the base of the hill. This monastery also welcomes visitors who want to study the Buddhist doctrines.
