A very special thanks to Mike Goliber for lending me his mics so I could make this video! Microphones: Aston Starlight AKG C 451 B Shure SM81 Earthworks QTC30 Samson C02 Mic Pre: Focusrite ISA Two Drums: 1967 Ludwig Cymbals: Zildjian This is the first video of a short series comparing the sounds of various small diaphragm condenser microphones. After receiving my new Aston Starlight pair, I thought this would be a useful project, as many people have yet to hear these mics. The comparison is blind, as to remove any bias one might have based on price, manufacturer, or model. It includes a very inexpensive mic (Samson C02 - $140 pair), a high end reference mic (Earthworks QTC30 - known for a very flat response and natural sound), two widely known classic SDCs (Shure SM81, AKG C 451 B) and a new mic to the market (Aston Starlight - including 3 distinct voicing settings: Vintage, Modern, and Hybrid). I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments, either on your impressions of the mics, or input on the video in general, as this is my first video in the realm of production. Thanks!
