Vyturių Romuva (Prussian) Fire Ritual on Vilnelė Upė in Užupis, Vilnius, Lithuania

On September 20, 2024, the anniversary of the Great Prussian Uprising, in the Užupis Republic, a ceremony was held to unveil the Užupis Constitution in the Prussian language. The Great Prussian Uprising began on September 20th 1260. A military meeting took place where the Prussian commander, Herkus Mantas, met with other commanders and strategized how to resist the Teutonic Order. Over time, the Teutonic Order was successful and the last native speaker of the Prussian language would die in about 1730. In the 1980s, Vladimir Toporov and Vytautas Mažiulis began to reconstruct the language. There are now children once again learning the reconstructed Old Prussian language as their first tongue. One of the ways of celebrating the unveiling of the Constitution in Prussian was a fire ritual. This video documents that ritual in the Prussian language with Prussian songs. Enjoy!
