Cluster headaches are one of the three types of headaches we commonly discuss; the other two being migraines and tension headaches. With migraines, you're going to have the unilateral, throbbing headache, with associated nausea and vomiting. Sometimes, there can be an aura preceding the headache. Other times you can have associated photophobia, hyperacusis, and the headache is going to be aggravated by movement. Tension headaches are on the opposite spectrum. They are global and squeezing in nature; the patient might have tight trapezius muscles and associated with stress and isn't aggravated by movement. Unlike migraines, there isn't nausea, vomiting, photophobia, or hyperacusis. Now that we know the basics of the first two, it's time to dive deep into cluster headaches.
