If you play with soft, forged golf irons, then you need to have the loft and lie angles for your irons checked and adjusted periodically. With the aid of a golf loft and lie machine, your PGA Professional can make accurate adjustments to the lofts and lie angles of your golf clubs. Your pro can advise you on the ideal settings to suit your game and help you achieve consistent distance gapping between your irons. Lofts are fairly easy to understand - If you are hitting a particular club to high or too low, then you can identify this and your pro can adjust the lofts accordingly. The lie angle of your irons is a little more complicated and has an effect on you accuracy. If your club’s lie angle is too flat, this can effectively open your clubface. If the lie angle is too upright on a particular iron, then the clubface can be more closed at setup and hooks can result. It’s also an important part of the process, to have your PGA Professional give you a club fitting. Even if you don’t intend to purchase a new set of irons right away, the knowledge you gain about your ideal lofts and lies is worth the investment. Steve and Glen are not ‘Method’ coaches. They recognise that there are literally 1000’s of ways to swing a golf club! Rather than try to ‘change’ your swing, their goal is to help You Be The Best Golfer You Can Be! Skill Development vs Technical Changes Although technique is an important factor in improving a golfer’s performance, Skill Development is largely neglected in golf coaching today. Skill is something that can be tangibly improved with proper understanding of the golf impact laws and effective practice towards improved performance. External Focus of Attention Most golf teaching involves an internal focus. Common suggestions might include increased hip turn, a still head or improved hand path. These are all factors of the golf swing, which many golfers and teachers consider important. However, as they are focused internally, on movements of the body, golfers find changes extremely difficult to process.
