Sougwen Chung, a Chinese-Canadian artist and researcher, is renowned for her pioneering work in the field of human-machine collaboration. She delves into the intricate relationship between humans, AI systems, and robotics by exploring the marks created by both human hands and machines. "Assembly Lines" features a kinetic installation that serves as a ceremonial collaboration between the artist and her new generation of custom robotic art assistants, aimed at showcasing a poetic exploration of co-creation between the biological and the mechanical. Through the use of an EEG headset, the robotic arms of the art assistants synchronise with Chung's biometrics, allowing them to sense and respond to her brainwaves while holding paintbrushes. Together, they partake in the centreing rituals of drawing and meditation, fostering a harmonious union between the artist's mind and the mechanical capabilities of the robots. Chung's work challenges traditional notions of authorship and explores the potential for collaboration between humans and AI systems, ultimately questioning the boundaries of artistic expression and the role of technology in the creative process.
