This Art Pro MPA II review looks at the Art Pro MPA II Studio 2-Channel Tube Preamp. This Art Pro MPA II demo will help you to determine if it is possible to get great preamp sounds from a preamp at this low price point. Check price of Art Pro MPA II on Sweetwater - https://imp.i114863.net/k6zNL It is not surprise that the ART Pro MPA II is so fairly priced. ART has built their reputation on delivering exceptional music technology at low price points but we were still surprised by the versatility of the MPAII and the low cost that it came with. To make the right choice you should leave your prejudice at the door. A lot of producers make the mistake of thinking that if it is not expensive than it just is not worth the time. We are here to prove that you do not have to dump a bunch of cash to get a great sound. All you need is some talent and the ART Pro MPA II! We were hesitant at first too when we realized what was being promised at such a low price, but after the review we became ART converts! First Impressions. On paper this preamp has everything that you would want to have in a preamp including: • frequency response extending from 15Hz to 48kHz (+0, ‑1dB) when the valve anode‑voltage is set to normal • input noise for the mic input ‑129dBu A‑weighted, translating to a dynamic range of more than 110dB, again A‑weighted. Both mic inputs can accommodate • signal levels of up to +10dBu, maximum instrument level is +17dBu (800kΩ impedance). • The output stage to +27dB on the XLRs, and has a low 47Ω impedance, which is suitable for driving long cables. The unboxing was relatively uneventful except for the fact that the PRO MPA 2 felt really solid. As a matter of fact we found it to be a lot heavier than expected. The front panel had great styling. The knobs are retro style. The graphs and LED meters are nice and bright. The input is a solid state design. Overall it “feels” like it will work great. It is a good looking piece of equipment. Of course, the next question was, was it all show and no go? The Sound. Ultimately all the bells and whistles in engineering do not make a difference if you cannot get the sound that you want. We are happy to report that the sound is there. Recording vocals with a large diaphragm condensor sounded great, and ribbon mics were also enhanced by this preamp. The sound was natural sounding with key enhancements and warmth. You do have to be careful not to overdrive because it is noticeable when you do. If you bring the drive down to a lower level and switch the high tube voltage up you get the thickening of the sound that you want without making it sound overdriven. It worked great to bolster weaker vocals and added the natural transparent sound that creates hits. When used with the ribbon the results were a nice brightening of the tones. Overall. This preamp delivers and it does it at a really nice price point. We had to mess around with it to get the results that we wanted with the capacitor mic but once we found the sweet spot we were very happy with the results. Like all new equipment in the studio, no matter how many demos you watch or how many reviews you read, you really need to be able to play with a bit to make it your own and find your own perfect sweet spot based on the sound that you are shooting for. There is plenty that this preamp can do that we really did not explore but we think it would meet a wide range of recording and sound needs. There is no cons to this preamp, it delivers as promised and does not break the budget.
