Jungle and drum'n'bass pioneer Roni Size joins us in the new studio at BIMM Institute Birmingham for an intimate Masterclass with our Music Production students. Roni Size is a legendary DJ and Producer from Bristol. In 1997, he rose to fame with his Mercury Prize-winning ‘New Forms’ album, which he created as part of Roni Size & Reprazent alongside fellow Bristol artists Krust, DJ Die, Dynamite MC, and others. In this Masterclass, Roni talks us through his beginnings in music and the early years of drum'n'bass, ‘The Bristol Sound’, St. Paul’s Carnival and sound system culture. He also discusses his kit and equipment he used back in the day, but also embracing modern technology. And, as part of our #MusicMadeUs campaign, Roni touches on how he coined the name ‘Attic Man’; spending days on end in the studio trying to develop the craft and culture of the Jungle genre.
