But this August, some of Cuba’s most talented 11- and 12-year-old baseball players are in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to compete in the Little League World Series—a first for a Cuban team. Baseball has long been a bridge connecting Cuba and the United States. It’s no coincidence that Barack Obama made baseball a centerpiece of his historic détente with Cuba and attended a game during his 2016 visit to Havana. But baseball-crazy Cuba has never sent a team to the Little League World Series – until now.
