During the recording of our own material for our album we decided to visit the influence of the past, David Sylvian being someone who has influenced both of our music journeys. The music for Forbidden Colours was written for the soundtrack to the Nagisa Oshima film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence by Ryuichi Sakamoto with David Sylvian adding lyrics and vocals and was originally released as single in 1983. The original version has so many essential elements that were hard to leave out when trying to do our own take and this song. Our aim was to keep those intact while at the same time add some of our own flavours and textures to the song. MJM are Matthew John Donnachie – Vocals, Fretless bass.
