This is an interesting project. The goal is to clean the damaged blue channel while preserving as much information as possible, without resorting to any filters or secondary color correction. Instead, it utilizes the inherent properties of the RGB channels as discrete grayscale images. This concept has been the basis for many filters used in digital intermediate. The 35mm film, as seen in the original scan, is marred with dirt, blue and yellow stains, and even an afterimage of another frame, likely due to degradation. We can employ the red and green channels to address these issues, using either the light or bright parts of these channels to repair the damaged areas of the blue channel. This process greatly depends on the results of the previous steps, but the end result is quite satisfactory. We now have a solid starting image for common restoration procedures.
