Brad Richards, #17 - Detroit Red Wings

OneWire (http://www.onewire.com/videos) interviews Brad Richards, former Center and Alternate Captain for the New York Rangers, now center for the Detroit Red Wings, in the latest installment to the Open Door video series with Skiddy von Stade. "There are only 700 NHL players in the world so to be able to do this for a living, perform here in New York and MSG, you have to really savor it." Brad Richards grew up in a small fishing town on Prince Edward Island, Canada, where his father was a lobsterman. At 14, Brad left home to attend boarding school at the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, where he aimed to earn a hockey scholarship for an American college by the time he graduated. When he turned 18, his goal shifted when he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning after earning nearly every possible junior hockey honor in Canada's QJMHL league. Six years later in 2004, the Lightning won the Stanley Cup and Richards was named MVP. After two lockouts, Richards was eventually traded to the Dallas Stars in 2008 where he set an NHL record by scoring four points in a single period against the San Jose Sharks. In 2011, he signed a nine-year contract with the New York Rangers, where he still plays today as Center and Alternate Captain. His passions besides hockey include collecting wine and giving back to his community. He has started both the PEI Celebrity Golf Classic and Richie's Rascals.
