7:34BTG. Golf MK2 16V Turbo, DN14 Trackday vs Chris Harris in a 991 GT3RS

A lap before lunch on the Destination Nurburgring 14 Trackday on 28th April 2016. A thoroughly enjoyable lap on a clear circuit with almost no traffic. This was the first session out after changing the tyres and the fronts were overheating by the end of the session, getting up to 40psi. They started the session at 24psi cold, but as the air inside them was cold from the overnight sub zero temperatures, the pressure increased significantly over the 2 laps. After lowering it to 28, they only increased to 32 after the next 2 laps. As I pass the carpark you can see the Orange Porsche coming out of the pits. I then catch a Porsche going up Kesselchen at a really inconvenient point which loses me loads of momentum up the hill. Rather than try and force my way past and also slow the car behind, I tucked in, let the 991 past then tagged onto him for the rest of the lap. The Red Audi RS4 at the start of the video is being driver by Jan and his incar video of this lap can be seen here :    • Nurburgring Nordschleife DN14 B7 RS4 ...   at The 991 joined the track (00:18) just as I was passing the start and by the time I was entering Aremberg (02:17) I could see him in my mirror as he was going round Schwedenkreuz. This can be seen from the following Audi here:    • Nurburgring Nordschleife DN14 B7 RS4 ...   . The gap was very slowly shrinking but not enough for me to pull over. A good end to the lap and when I went to talk to the driver afterwards it turned out to be Chris who was rather surprised it took him so long to catch a Golf designed in the 1980`s in a new GT3RS :) This was a trackday which is strictly non-competitive. As often happens, when 2 drivers are out on the same part of the circuit you often find some friendly rivalry occurs. This was a lap of high speed `close formation driving`. Zero issues on the Golf meant I could press on until the end of the lap. Still several areas to improve, I can certainly go quicker through Flugplatz but overall a reasonable lap that I`m satisfied with. The missing second in the video is when the camera started a new file and the drivercam filled the memory card just as we passed under the Gantry ! That`s the only downside with the Mobius, it sometimes loses a second of footage as it starts a new file. Unfortunately no rear cam video this lap which is a shame. Just to clarify after a few comments / messages I`ve had... Let`s not pretend for a minute that in a proper race I`d be able to keep up with him ! In no way am I suggesting that if Chris was really `on it` that I`d be able to keep up. It`s a new GT3RS driven by a proper driver for goodness sake ! This was a trackday and I happened to be able to stay within touch of Chris enjoying a lap at the ring on what was a cracking event. To me that`s what trackdays and events like this are all about. Having fun on circuit with other drivers. The fact that one or the other COULD go quicker if they wanted is missing the point entirely. The ring is not about the laptime but the experiences you have on it and this was a great one that I certainly won`t forget in a hurry. More details here : https://pinderwagen.com/
