Spa Valley Railway: Winter Steam Up Gala! 9~11/2/24

My return to the Spa Valley Railway for their annual ‘Winter Steam Up’ which provided some great action amongst an intensive timetable with plenty of double header action. Timestamps below! This event would see the Spa’s Battle Of Britain Class no 34072 play dress up and mimic no 34066 ‘Spitfire’ which unfortunately was scrapped. The reason behind this was to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the ‘Sussex Downsman’ railtour which ran from Tunbridge Wells down onto the Cuckoo Line which ran through Heathfield & Hailsham, and onto Pevensey. The Cuckoo Line makes up the lost link and is hoped one day, the Spa could extend back down the old Cuckoo Line route. Rubbing shoulders with the builed would be two BR standard engines: 80078 & 78019. The latter visiting from the Great Central Railway. This Standard pairing made for a great double standard header opportunity! This also ran many double header trains with CR class 812 No 828 which performed stella work as always. Returning from overhaul would also see Andrew Barclay No. 2315 'Lady Ingrid' run brake van rides from TWW to Groombridge.
