The zero energy building at Takeda’s Woodlands, Singapore, manufacturing site will be the first of its kind in the global Takeda manufacturing and supply network. The building follows standards from the Singapore Building Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Zero Energy Building (ZEB) scheme and sets the bar for green energy design. The Green Mark scheme is aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Launched in 2005, the BCA Green Mark certification scheme is a rating system that evaluates a building's environmental impact and performance. The project includes over 660 solar photo voltaic (PV) panels to fully offset the building’s energy consumption. The smart building will include CO2 sensors to regulate fresh air demand, a hybrid AC system with assistance of ceiling fans and thermal diffusers to optimize energy usage and to improve air circulation and air flow to ensure user well-being. Additionally, rainwater harvesting and the use of green concrete are only two of many more measures that support qualifying for zero energy building certification. The building is planned to be ready for occupancy in 2022.
