B-52H Cart Start - April 2019

B-52H cart start uses explosive cartridges to start some of the Stratofortresses' eight engines. With generator power on those engines, the other jets can be started without external power. The process dramatically speeds up the time to takeoff. The crew can be starting some engines while already taxiing to the runway on the power of the cartridge-started engines. This cart start was for a simulated nuclear exercise. The video received from DoD was mostly silent, with a few seconds of some engine start sounds; we edited the raw footage to make this presentation.
