Trains of Marion, Ohio.

Hello everyone! Here is a compilation of action from Marion, Ohio, another great railfanning spot in the State of Ohio as well as the Midwest. This is the first time I have been to Marion in about two years, and it didn't disappoint. Some of the best catches from today include a Penn Central Covered Hopper on a manifest going west on the Big Four Route and an ex-Conrail caboose on a local train going east into town on the same route. Historically, Marion was the junction of four major railroads: the New York Central (Big Four), the Pennsylvania/the Norfolk & Western, the Chesapeake and Ohio, and the Erie (and later on, the Erie Lackawanna). Marion also had a major yard on the Erie/Erie Lackawanna system just west of the junctions at Union Station. Today, Marion is still a busy junction, though the Erie yard is just a fragment of what it was back in its heyday, and the former C&O mainline sees only about ten trains a day. The former Erie mainline is also abandoned west of these junctions. Nevertheless, Marion is still a very busy place, with over 65 trains in 24 hours, mostly over the Norfolk Southern Heartland Corridor between Bellevue and Columbus, Ohio (the former Pennsy/N&W line) and over CSX's former Big Four route between Cleveland and Indianapolis. In addition, a few trains make the turn from the Big Four Route to the ex-C&O mainline in the northwest side of the junction, traveling between Indianapolis and Willard Yard in Willard, Ohio, or Wahlberg Yard in Toledo, Ohio. And as always, I hope you enjoy the video! N&W475
