Back to School Lunch Prep Ideas ~ Vacuum Sealer Hacks ~ Noreen's Kitchen

You can find the Moer Sky Vacuum sealer here: https://amzn.to/2KRMavf Back to school time is upon us and if your kids have already gone back or are getting ready to go back, being prepared is the key! This year, make the effort to do meal prep for school lunches on a weekend afternoon and be ready for the week to come! When you can grab and go, even just a portion of their lunch you will be less stressed and happier and so will your kids! Using your vacuum sealer can be a real help when it comes to keeping things fresh for the whole week once they have been prepped! This budget level vacuum sealer is definitely a winner in my book. While my girls are no longer taking a lunch nor are they participating in a regular work day, I am sharing some of the things that I used to do at the beginning of the busy week to make lunch prep super simple! Today I am making fruit and veggie packs as well as homemade yogurt tubes which serve double duty. You can freeze these and eat them as a homemade froyo pop or you can put them in the lunch box and by eating time they are cold and ready to enjoy. The veggie and fruit packs are super simple. Just collect the items your children enjoy. I am using apples, carrots, celery, peppers and cucumbers. I do like to do the fruit alone, but sometimes do apples and carrots with peanut butter. You can also add a little cup of ranch for your kids to dip in. I have a great recipe for a bulk ranch dressing mix that is easy to mix up and you know what's in it! You can find that link here: http://bit.ly/Ranchdressingmix. I am also sharing how to make homemade yogurt tubes similar to "GoGurt". For these I fashioned tubes from the bags that were included in the vacuum sealer. I was able to get four tubes out of one bag. I like to make my own flavored yogurt using Greek yogurt, either fat free or full fat, your choice and the jam of your choice. You can use no sugar fruit spread or your homemade jam or you can just make these up using your favorite bulk yogurt. No need to bother making everything from scratch. Good quality organic yogurt is available that would be great to use here. The secret to getting the yogurt in the tube is two fold. Use a funnel and make sure that there is a bit of air able to get in there so the yogurt will be able to flow downward. I also find it helpful to use the handle of a wooden spoon to coax the yogurt into the tube. Once the tubes are filled, just pop them into the sealer and use the "seal only" option to get a good seal on the top of the tubes. And boom, your own homemade yogurt tubes, ready for your weekly lunch rush. These may or may not seem to be a little "extra" to you when you could easily go out and buy a box of them and be done, but this is just another option and a way to have you know what went into your kid. The Moer Sky vacuum sealer works great for small jobs and is also a good option for people on a budget. The $27.99 price point is affordable and this does what it says. It will take large and small standard vacuum sealer bags that you can procure online or at the big box store. You should not use a standard plastic bag here though. Also, it is not recommended to vacuum seal liquids. You can however, seal liquids without a vacuum. Vacuum sealing can save you time and money. Saving time as with what I have shared today and saving money by keeping your food fresher longer. Keeping less of your hard earned money out of the garbage pail. I love to use the vacuum sealer for block cheese as well as keeping meat fresh in the freezer! Your cheese can last up to six months when vacuum sealed and your meats can last up to a year or longer. Reducing freezer burn as well as flavor transfer from the icebox. Thank you to Moer Sky for providing us with the sealer to demonstrate and for partnering with our channel on today's video. I hope you give these back to school lunch hacks a try and I hope you love them! Happy Eating!
