[4K] IRMX/CNW 7009 (SD50) Startup & Idle

18 minutes of sweet sweet EMD 16-645F rumble. Usually, the Illinois Railway Museum is closed during winter, but for its 70th anniversary, they're doing things differently. The first of such changes is a special event weekend in January. Saturday the 21st is North Shore Line Day, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of NSL service. Most of the museum's operational NSL cars ran that day, including some rare work equipment. Sunday the 22nd is Cabin Fever Day; pretty much a 'come out and see trains day' because it would really be a shame to let all of Saturday's efforts go to waste. Anyway, IRM had recently acquired CNW 7009, an EMD SD50, and efforts were being made to have it operate on Sunday. The diesel team fired her up and had 7009 sitting on track 22 for about an hour. It appears that they were trying to load up the dynamic brake circuits, but the main DB fan was having some issues. You can see them opening up the side panels and going inside the carbody to get a better look. One item of interest is the fact that when 7009 was delivered to the museum, it was lacking a horn. The diesel team appears to have since mounted either a Leslie S3L or RS3L on the cab roof. Anyway, 7009 is expected to operate on Sunday if all goes well. This would be the first revenue run since 7009 arrived on museum property on November 15th.
