You’ve never seen Charly Boy this vulnerable before. He left Nigeria because of rebellion against his parents - his father was a famous legal scholar, and he felt stifled. He needed to breathe. He grew up amongst gay and trans people, and that what influenced his entire style - and his rebellion against the norm. When he returned to Nigeria with his American wife, he was rejected, including by his parents. So he disowned his parents and went to the village for seven years because he was broke, and couldn’t even sustain his family. The battle with his father lasted many years, as he struggled to make a name for himself, until it thawed into a beautiful relationship, one that ended with his parents dying in his own house. In between, multiple heartbreaks - he almost married the effervescent Tina Onwudiwe, who he lost to death, taking custody of her ashes. He watched the Charly Boy Show die, and hosted the popular Zoom Time for TWELVE years without a kobo in corporate sponsorships. We talk about his fights with Deji Adeyanju and his daughter; as well as his love affair with his wife and the world. This was a soft, somber, subdued Charly Boy reflecting on a life of many highs and many lows, many risks and many victories. You’ll find yourself inspired.
