Tempos are steady state 80% efforts. It's the type of effort that you would give in the middle of a race where you're not sprinting all-out BUT you are working at a competitive pace and pushing your limits. It's a "comfortably uncomfortable" effort that you could theoretically maintain for about 10+ minutes, if required.
