Peaceful Doodle and Tracing Activity - Glances by Sarah L. Mauro - Musical Song Map

Here's a "doodly" way to engage with music while practicing quiet and focused expression. This tracing map is a peaceful yet activity for elementary students in music class or the general classroom. It's a great option to help with transitions, calming down at the end of the day, or brain breaks. The glyphs follow the form of the piece, with contrasting shapes and colors to indicate same and different sections. The piece, Glances, is by me by Sarah L. Mauro (that's me!). I wrote it in college for piano only, and later adapted it for cello, flute, and piano. This version, created in GarageBand, has select strings, winds, piano, and harp. ⚫️ How to use this activity: Students will trace the glyphs as the music plays, following the speed and shape. There is no right or wrong way to do this. • They can use scarves or ribbons, they can trace in their with their finger, or they can use a coloring utensil to trace the glyphs on the paper map (free download COMING SOON) • Repeating sections will have the same shapes/glyphs. The way they are traced matches the music, so be sure to follow the pace of the color • Colors in the video are meant to help differentiate between musical sections. • Sometimes, there are two shapes at once.
