While surgery, including nodal dissection, has been standard, the PRADO study (NCT02977052) introduced exceptions by demonstrating that surgery might not be necessary in all cases. Future studies like MSLT-3 will aim to validate this approach, and ongoing research will aim to identify biomarkers or imaging techniques, such as PET scans, to further refine the need for surgery in specific patients.
