When you are going to do any work on a 2 wire system like changing a decoder, splicing in a new wire path, or fixing a cut wire, make sure you turn the power off to the controller and the 2 wire path. There are two reasons to turn the power off, one to avoid getting shocked and two to avoid damaging the system and/ or decoders. 2 wire systems have power running through them all the time, so if you cut that wire and touched them together, you will get shocked if you did not turn off the power.
