Some neat tips to help you save iphone 7 battery life on iOS 10! The Bad: The iPhone 7 came last when pitted against the Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10 and LG G5, according to tests done by UK-based Which? “We compared the iPhone 7’s battery life…and the results were staggering,” said the testing organization. The results showed the iPhone 7 lasting about 12 hours between charges, while the Galaxy S7 “lasted twice as long” and the HTC 10 lasted about 31 hours. Other reviews, such as one at The Guardian and another from Trusted Reviews, were also critical of battery life. “I’ve found the iPhone 7 has the shortest battery life I’ve experienced on any mainstream phone over the past couple of years,” said Trusted Reviews. Publications like MacWorld were less critical but didn’t find battery life impressive compared to previous iPhone models. “Despite the A10’s power management features, I didn’t notice dramatic battery life savings,” said MacWorld, referring to the new A10 processor. The Good: The problem is, these assessments are at odds with other reviews. The Wall Street Journal claimed significant improvements in battery life with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus over the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. As did reviews at tech sites like The Verge. And Tom’s Guide, for the most part, took issue with the results from Which? In a post entitled, “iPhone 7 Battery Life a Bust? Don’t Believe the Hype” Tom’s Guide said, “We thought those findings looked a little odd — Apple’s latest phones did pretty well in our battery tests.” Read their explanation for the discrepancies here, which discusses the reliance on 3G speeds by Which? rather than 4G/LTE. I asked Ian Fogg, head of mobile analysis at IHS Technology, about the Which? results. He said that while “it’s hard to comment on specific individual tests without having access to the full methodology used…Smartphone makers have to judge the right combination of features, weight and battery size. This is an incredibly hard trade off decision to make,” he said. “In recent years, consumers have preferred to buy advanced smartphones with numerous new features but much less battery life than [lower-end] feature phones,” he said. “Before the modern smartphone, consumers were used to charging a mobile phone once every few days. Now, modern smartphones aim to last just one day between charges,” he added. ✦✦✦ Enjoy the video? Subscribe! http://bit.ly/169uIZL ✦✦✦ Follow me on Twitter! / caltalkstech
