Freshwater mussels are vastly underappreciated organisms that clean the Earth's waterways to provide valuable ecosystem services. They are already highly endangered and are growing more vulnerable in the face of climate change. Rachel Mair, Amy Manyard, and others at the Harrison Lake Fish Hatchery work hard to help keep the diversity of these natural water filters by propagation, research, and stewardship.
