Globally, women are empowered to achieve, on average, only 60 per cent of their full potential and no country has achieved full gender parity. Fewer than 1 per cent of women and girls live in a country with high women's empowerment and a small gender gap. This is according to the recent United Nations Women and the United Nations Development Programme's report, "The paths to equal: Twin indices on women's empowerment and gender equality". In South Africa, while many achievements have been gained, women are yet to achieve full participation in the economy and transform power relations. To highlight the history and achievements made, this year's Women's month theme, "Accelerating Socio-Economic Opportunities for the Empowerment of Women" is aligned with one of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 which strives for the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by 2030. But how possible is it to reach the full potential of women empowerment in this country? To discuss these issues, this morning we are in partnership with Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa. Joining us is a panel of women who are continuing to encourage a state of empowering more women to rise. We have Matshiamo Lebese, Regional Logistics Manager, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Advocate Mpatsi Qofo Lebakeng, Acting Group CEO, Alliance Group Investments and Advocate Annamarie van der Merwe, Executive Chair, Fluid Rock Governance Group.
