The 11 day siege atop an Idaho mountaintop that ended with the death of Randy Weaver's family dog, 13 year old son, and wife was a huge embarrassment for federal law enforcement. After an undercover fed entrapped Weaver, a former green beret, by asking that he saw off a couple shotguns. They attempted to flip him to be an informant but after Randy refused and then was a no-show at his trial, the fed began making armed patrols of his property and and rigging it for surveillance. A chain of poor decisions and excessive force by federal law enforcement officials led to the Weavers being picked off pinned down in their own home for 11 days.
