Nicosia Old Town, Eleftheria Square & Ledra street Observatory

A day out around Nicosia old town, the capital city of Cyprus. This is sadly the last divided capital city in the world and a really interesting place to visit. The observatory has information about the history of Nicosia and you can view the divided capital from above. Maps give you information on what you are viewing and it can be a good way to give you an idea of what to see around the town. If you don’t wish to cross over to the North of the island you can view both sides of the border from the observatory. Nicosia old town streets are a great place to walk around and admire the architecture of the old buildings, as i said in the video “if streets could talk, these streets would have some stories to tell”. You stumble across interesting things to see around every corner. The newly finished Eleftheria square was a nice area to walk around, it’s in between the new town and old town and walking around it you can forget you are in the town center. A lot of people were complaining on its completion that it should have taller trees for shade but when events are held I can imagine the views from above the square for spectators is great. This would have been lost if tell trees had been planted to maybe this is the reason they didn’t. You can find a few nice cafés in the square and a children’s play area.
