It can be performed via nasal or oral routes and in either an awake or anaesthetized patient. Although it may be used for any intubation, the main indications are in anticipated difficult airways including history of difficult intubation, limited neck flexion/extension, congenital airway abnormalities and need for awake intubation among many others. It This video demonstration by Dr Richard Levitan (@airwaycam) with assistance from Dr Georgie Harris (@gwebbharris) is a practical guide to using video scopes for endotracheal intubation. Following a brief rundown of the equipment and how to use it, Richard Levitan performs nasal laryngoscopy on himself using a Storz laryngoscope to demonstrate anatomy, equipment and technique! He also outlines differences between using long and short scopes. Dr Georgie Harris uses her ENT experience to describe her tips for using the scopes with invaluable troubleshooting ideas.
