REUBEN JELLEYMAN: Designs ‘Designs’ by Reuben Jelleyman was commissioned by Stroma with funding from Creative New Zealand (and a private donor). As seen in this Resound film shot at City Gallery Wellington, the work’s programme note reads: “I heard a piece on the radio late at night when I was quite young, unlike any that I had heard before; neither do I think I’d ever recognise it again. In the morning I checked the previous night’s programme and couldn’t find what I was looking for. I am not sure I actually heard the piece that I now remember: the impression was distinctly that of a grand city collapsing, of its buildings tumbling and never ceasing.” Stroma is conducted by Hamish McKeich.
