A guqin closely resembles a zither in modern days, but there's a difference. Guqin is an ancient chinese musical instrument consisting of seven strings. Zither on the other hand, is an instrument consisting of many strings stretched across a thin, flat body. And Lan Wangji's guqin is called Wangji (忘机) As a musician myself, let me confirm, his guqin is actually heaven to ears. The first time I heard it I was so stunned and immdiately fell in love with the show. But there's way more to it than just amazing syncing of musical instruments.
